The Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (TBGRI)
is one of the foremost botanical research institutes in Asia.
In its approach to the study of indigenous tropical plants,
it draws on experts from such scientific disciplines as ethnomedicine,
phytochemistry, pharmacology, and Ayurveda. Through the research
of the institute, numerous medicinal herbs have been identified
with the result that many herbal products have been developed
and produced.
The
clinical safety of all the products produced by TBGRI is established
by employing the highest standards of quality control measures.
All botanical ingredients are scientifically identified and
the formulations have undergone vigorous evaluations. All
products undergo stringent toxicological studies before they
are released to mass production. The 1991 guidelines established
by the World Health Organization for the preparation of such
products are strictly followed.
Dr.
P. Pushpangadan, Director of TBGRI, was introduced to the
medicinal properties of the arogyappacha plant by the Kani
tribesman who live in the region of the Western Ghats, Kerala,
India. After seven years of research, TBGRI developed Jeevani,
a product using the essential ingredient of the arogyappacha.
Jeevani is an immuno-enhancing, anti-fatigue herbal preparation.
The technology for producing Jeevani was sold to Arya Vaidya
Pharmacy, Coimbatore. TBGRI, however, maintains quality control
over the final product. The raw plant is screened to ensure
it contains the proper chemical and biological properties. |
